To summarize what we know so far of The Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) from leaked emails via Wikileaks, Chelsea Clinton launched an internal governance review by a prestigious law firm, Simpson Thacher, to audit for corruption and fraud. It found The Clinton Foundation in gross violation of federal charity laws causing unease among the staff. The internal governance review was bitterly opposed by Clinton Foundation staff, all long-time loyalists to the Clintons. As part of the reform, Chelsea Clinton raised the issue of bringing in a new COO: This pushed current COO, Laura Graham, to the brink of suicide. One staffer wrote of Graham, "...on Staten Island in her car parked a few feet from the water’s edge with her foot on the gas pedal and the car in park. She called me to tell me the stress of all of this office crap with Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton as well as that of her family had driven her to the edge and she couldn't take it anymore….” In response to Chelsea Clinton's concerns that there were conflicts of interest, Clinton Foundation board member and long-time adviser to Bill Clinton, Doug Band, responded with: “As they say, the apple doesn’t fall far. A kiss on the cheek while she is sticking a knife in the back, and front”, AND Chelsea Clinton is a “spoiled brat” and wrote, “I'm also starting to worry that if this story gets out, we are screwed…. I realize it is difficult to confront and reason with her [Chelsea Clinton] but this could go too far and then we all will have a real serious set of other problems.” So why are they so afraid? Is it simply because of the charity’s lack of oversight in meeting charity laws as detailed in the governance review? Turns out Doug Band founded Teneo on the side, a for-profit consulting firm that advises corporate CEOs: Bill Clinton acted as a paid consultant with $116 million in earnings and future contracts in return for serving in honorary positions and giving Clinton speeches. Huma Abedin (Hillary Clinton’s top aid) served as a paid “senior advisor” while serving as deputy chief of staff at the State Department. Teneo sought to profit from Clinton Foundation relationships by getting its own clients to donate to Clinton Foundation and gain face-time with Hillary Clinton at the Department of State. AP says that 55% of private interest people who visited with Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State were Clinton Foundation donors. In response to the review, Doug Band fired back in his defense by throwing Bill Clinton under the bus, “Oddly, Bill Clinton does not have to sign such a [conflict of interest] document even though he is personally paid by 3 sponsors, gets many expensive gifts from them, some that are at home etc. I could add 500 different examples of things like this.” These emails paint a clear picture of staffer knowledge around ongoing conflicts of interest where the Clinton Foundation leveraged its donors for massive profits and potential favors from Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. A pure pay to play scheme. But don’t take our word for it. Ask Huma Abedin who said in one email in response to one instance where there was a conflict of interest, “Hillary created a this mess and she knows it,” OR Ask Eric Braverman, the ex-CEO of CF, that tipped off NBC to “follow the money.” Senate Judiciary Committee is investigating the relationship between Teneo, Abedin and Clinton Foundation aides.
